Why teams choose Gotham

An agentic citator for Indian law

India is the most complicated jurisdiction to get right. Gotham's legal ontology records each holding, bench and statute version. Its agents read every later judgment that cites a case and show, point by point and with the passage, whether it was followed, distinguished, doubted or overruled.

One workspace, one subscription

Gotham Pro includes research, AI, drafting, data-room review, chronologies, case tracking by CNR, eSign and e-stamp. On Manupatra, these are spread across separate products and credits.

AI included in the price

Gotham Junior costs ₹3,999 a year plus GST and includes 300 Gotham AI credits a month, matters, case tracking by CNR and a hearing diary. Searching and reading judgments and Acts is free with an account.

Security for client work

Gotham holds SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001, stores Indian customers' data in India and never uses your data to train AI. Manupatra publishes no security certifications.

Built for large firms

Shared matters, roles and ethical walls. SSO, SAML and SCIM. Firm workflows, playbooks and a library of agent skills. SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001 and data stored in your own country. Gotham Pro is priced with your firm.

What Manupatra does well

Good-law flags and case maps

Manupatra marks overruled judgments with red, yellow and blue flags, shows SLP status, and draws a Case Map of every later case that cited a judgment.

Deep Indian coverage and journals

Manupatra covers 25 High Courts, some from the 1840s, 37 tribunals and commissions, 3,500+ central Acts with amendments, and 342 Indian journals.

Pay only for the AI you use

Research plans start at ₹14,250 a year, AI Summary at ₹5,000 a year, and ManuWorks credits cost ₹1.25 each, so light users can keep AI costs low.

How to test both fairly

  1. Pick one real, bounded piece of work, not a demo question.
  2. Give both products the same documents and the same question.
  3. Agree beforehand what a good answer needs: the right authorities, pinpoint citations, the right format.
  4. Have a qualified lawyer check every answer against the source.
  5. Time the corrections, not just the first draft.
  6. Check permissions, data deletion, exports and audit logs as well as output quality.

Ask both the same research question from a live matter. Check every citation and the treatment of each case, then see how far each tool takes you towards the final draft.

Which one should you pick?

Pick Gotham if

  • You mainly search case law and statutes.
  • You rely on Manupatra's good-law flags and Case Map.
  • You want to pay for AI only when you use it.
